I Tried Kybella and Here’s my Experience

What even is Kybella? You might’ve seen before and after photos on Instagram, or read articles about this new treatment that’s changing the aesthetics industry. I’ve always been a bit self-conscious about my double chin area, and after having weight fluctuations due to my thyroid issue, I knew it was time for me to do something about it.

I first heard about Kybella when I was in Scottsdale with PCA skin, and immediately starting researching it when I got back to the hotel. Once I have an idea about something, you better believe that I’ll do ALL the research and find the best of the best. This led me to Luxurgery, here in NYC, and I decided to take a first-hand look at this treatment and test it out to give you my honest opinion!

Today I’m answering all of the questions that you sent in on Instagram, and I’ll be sharing the before and after photos (eek!) of my journey so far. I’m all about feeling like your best self, and if there’s a safe treatment you can do that will make you happier.. by all means you should go for it 🙂

Your Kybella Questions Answered:

Q: What is Kybella?

A: KYBELLA® is a prescription medicine used in adults to improve the appearance and profile of moderate to severe fat below the chin (submental fat), aka “double chin.” It’s an injection containing synthetic deoxycholic acid. Deoxycholic acid is a naturally occurring molecule in the body that aids in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat. When injected into the fat beneath the chin, KYBELLA® destroys fat cells, and once destroyed, these cells can no longer store or accumulate fat. This results in a noticeable reduction in fullness under the chin, revealing an improved chin profile

Q: Where did you go to get your treatments done?

A: I went to Luxurgery in NYC and saw Dr. Sachin M. Shridharani, MD, FACS. I cannot express how amazing everyone was there! Dr. S is so knowledgable about Kybella and even coined the term, Surgery in a Syringe. He’s performed close to 3000 treatments of Kybella and knows how to properly treat you to give you the results you want.

Q: Does the Kybella treatment hurt?

A: Surprisingly it doesn’t hurt, it’s just a bit uncomfortable. The way Dr. S does it helps manage any pain you might feel otherwise. At Luxurgery they first numb the area and also ice it before the actual Kybella is injected. TBH, I’m horrible with needles, so if I can do it you can too!

Q: How much does the treatment cost?

A: Treatments can range depending on where you go, but usually average around $1000 per treatment. The average patient needs between 2-4 treatments and I’ve done two so far. This is a treatment that you definitely don’t want to try to use Groupons or sketchy deals on. Make sure you do your research and go to somewhere that’s reputable and safe (like Luxurgery!).

Q: What is the recovery like?

A: It’s honestly not as bad as you would think. It wasn’t painful after treatment, but just know that you WILL swell up like a bullfrog. Dr. S warned me about this and it just means that the treatment is working and actually burning off the fat cells. It was SO funny and crazy to look at.. I basically had no neck for a little while. Dr. S says he writes patients a prescription to “Netflix and chill” for a few days 🙂 Other than that, it’s pretty much just social downtime and you can go about your normal life.

My Before/After:

As I mentioned, I’ve done two rounds of Kybella and have seen a major difference! I might go back for a third just to really clean up under my chin, but the Kybella is still working and takes a few weeks/months to fully show a difference.

*Note: I am not wearing makeup in either photo, and I’m tan on the right from my vacation. They have you look down at a slight angle to create the beautiful “double chin” that is oh so flattering. Also, some of the puffiness in my cheeks from the first photo is due to my thyroid condition, which has also improved over the past 6 months.

Clearly, I’m already seeing such an amazing difference! My jawline is much more defined, and my chin area is much thinner. I may possibly go in for one final treatment in a few months to really clean up under my chin, but I’m honestly SO pleased with the results as they are now.

If you want to know more about Kybella, check out my interview on IGTV with Dr. S! Feel free to comment or shoot me an email/dm if you have any questions about the treatment or Luxurgery. The offer a ton of other treatments too and I can’t recommend them enough!

xx,

Lauren
