Kennebunkport Travel Guide

Kennebunkport travel guide

Your ultimate Kennebunkport travel guide is here just in time for East Coast Summer season. We recently went to Maine for my best friend’s wedding, and added on two days in KPT to the trip. It was our first time visiting, so of course we had to make the most of it. I just love exploring little New England towns… they are so darn cute! The food, the shopping, and the homes are all adorable. It definitely reminded me a bit of Nantucket, but with its own twist and charm.

Kennebunkport is a coastal town in southern Maine that is know for its shorelines, Goat Island Lighthouse and the Bush family’s summer home at Walker’s Point. We visited during the week in early June and it was still pretty empty! Apparently the summer crowds pick up closer to July, so keep that in mind. Our hotel was adorable and walking distance to Dock Square, the main town.

I’m sharing all of our Kennebunkport favorites below as well as recommendations from friends + followers. If you want to see more from our Maine trip, check out my travel vlog coming to YouTube soon. Also, feel free to comment any questions you might have too.

What to do

  • Dock Square- spend the day walking around this quintessential New England beach town and visit all of the cute shops and restaurants.
  • Get out on the water- they have so many options for exploring the coast and surrounding islands with boat charters and tours in KPT.
  • Goat Island Lighthouse- it’s off the coast and they offer tours for you to visit.
  • Relax on the beach- Goose Rocks Beach is probably the most scenic beach and one of the only soft, sandy options to walk and layout on. You can also hit The Tides for happy hour across the street.
  • Ride bikes or hike- there are a ton of options to explore the nature around KPT. Our hotel actually had free bikes available to guests!

Where to eat

You know we’re big foodies… so I often plan trips around the restaurant reservations! We were super impressed with both of the dinners we had in Kennebunkport (Earth and White Barn Inn). There are several other amazing spots below that I plan to try next time too:

  • Allison’s restaurant
  • Batson River Brewing
  • The Boathouse
  • The Clam Shack (amazing lobster rolls)
  • Dock Square Coffee House
  • Earth at Hidden Pond (loved!)
  • Little Barn part of White Barn Inn (more casual)
  • Mabel’s Lobster Claw
  • Ocean at Cape Arundel Inn
  • Rococo ice cream + dessert bar
  • Via Sophia by the Sea
  • White Barn Inn (super romantic)

Where to stay

When I was researching Kennebunkport hotels, I wanted something charming that was located in town and cozy, of course. When I found the Kennebunkport Captains collection, which is part of Lark Hotels, I loved how each mansion had a different style. We stayed in the William Jefferds house which was light, bright, and airy- totally my vibe!

The mansions of the Captains Collection are among the oldest in Kennebunkport’s historic district. These stately homes have passed through generations of Kennebunkport’s seafaring families, and have been reunited as a luxury boutique experience that captures the history and spirit of the iconic Maine seaport. The collection of homes is yours to explore. Join us at the mansion for breakfast in the garden. Whichever house is your favorite, you’ll enjoy intimate hideaways and lively gathering spots, plush bedding and fine linens, soaking tubs, working fireplaces, and original art.

KCC was the perfect mix of a luxury hotel and a boutique/bed and breakfast atmosphere that I love. They also offer free bikes and beach chairs for guests which are perfect for exploring the area. Full transparency: KCC hosted our stay, but all thoughts and opinions are honest.

Another great option for Kennebunkport, especially if you have a large group, is to rent a house on Airbnb and VRBO. When we were walking around, we saw a ton of vacation rentals that were gorgeous! No matter where you stay, you will definitely enjoy the charm in this town. I hope you enjoyed our Kennebunkport travel guide and feel free to comment your favorites below or pin this post for later!
