Self Care Tips to use at Home

self care at home

Let’s be honest.. we’re all living up the self care these days.  Our skin better be glowing more than ever after quarantine! I’ve been sharing some tips on how I practice self care at home over on Instagram, but wanted to get into more detail here.

A few weeks ago, I had an amazing HydraFacial™ at Haven Spa in NYC, and wanted to share a bit about that before the at-home tips.  The HydraFacial™ combines cleansing, exfoliation, extraction, and hydration all while delivering anti-oxidants, hyaluronic acid, peptides, and other essential nutrients.  It’s beneficial to all skin types, and I highly recommend visiting Haven Spa to get one when everything is back to normal 🙂

The HydraFacial has a ton of components that you can try at home too! The Haven Spa team was kind enough to pass along some self care tips as well.  Keep reading for everything you need for the ultimate self care day at home.

Facial Massage

Where better to start than with a facial massage? I love to apply a facial oil or serum and then use my jade roller or Gua Sha to massage it in. It’s also such a great way to de-stress.

Haven Spa Esthetician, Hanna Naranjo says:

Facial massage is a great way to relax the muscles, increase circulation, and aid in lymphatic drainage. Use firm, not hard, pressure and make sure to wash your hands before you begin. Facial massage can also help penetrate product so if you want to apply a serum or nutritive moisturizer while performing these techniques that would be great. Hanna begins with the eyebrows where we hold enormous amount of tension, finish by massaging down to the chest. Then focus under the eyes, across the cheek bones. Then do the “scissor” over the lips, side to side. Lastly, flutter the fingers under the chin for firmness.

Mask + Relax

Masks are all the rage right now, but are you using a mask that will benefit your skin type? I’m all about the multi-masking routine and will even use up to 3 at once. Charcoal masks are super helpful for my t-zone, but I’d rather hydrate for the rest of my face. Here are some tried and true favorites based on your skin type:

Dry Skin: Summer Friday’s Jet Lag Mask

Clogged Pores: Origins Clear Improvement Charcoal Mask

Breakouts: Drunk Elephant Babyfacial

Uneven Skintone: Fresh Rose Petal Mask

Overnight: TULA Probiotic Beauty Sleep Repair

Eyes: Patchology Eye Gels

Lips: Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask

Hair: Olaplex No. 3

Scalp Scrub: Drunk Elephant T.L.C. Happi Scalp

Foot Exfoliator: Baby Foot

Set the Tone

No self care day is complete without a little “mood lighting” aka candles.  Light a few, turn on the music and relax.

Sip + Soak

Want to take your self care to the next level? Treat yourself to a glass of wine and a bubble bath!

Mani/Pedi FTW

Finish off your at-home spa day with a little mani/pedi action. My favorite polishes are by Dazzle Dry because they’re non-toxic and dry in 5 minutes!

Oh My Moisturizer

Of course, we’re all washing our hands like crayyyy, but don’t forget to moisturize! That includes your hands, face, body.. everything!
